. Shunryu Suzuki, (1905-1971) was a direct spiritual descendent of the great thirteenth-century Zen master Dogen. He came to America in 1959, making his home in San Francisco and established the first Zen monastery in the West. Contains previously unpublished passages from Suzuki's talks and correspondence.
The author began practicing with Shunryu Suzuki in 1966 and was ordained by him in 1971.
