The hurricane of '36 knocked out a lot of the older Maple stock in the state, but the Stevenson "bush" (as it's called) was on the sheltered side of the hill, so most of their trees survived. This means they are tapping Maple trees that are several hundred years old. "Light Delicate" is 85% of their harvest. We've always been serious about the darker grade B Maple syrup, but while the Stevenson's Syrup has a lighter color, it has a robust, multi-faceted taste. Serious students of the Maple can expect to have their taste buds awakened. Like the feel of the sun streaming through the glass on a beautiful crisp Vermont morning, we are confident you will be impressed and delighted. Some years the crop is "organic," depending upon whether there is money to pay the registration fee. In any case, production is state of the art and inspected each year by the state of Vermont. Shane Stevenson, whose great great grandfather started the sugaring operation, runs it now with help from his mom and dad. Shane also plows the driveway of the local meditation center in the winter, and runs a digger in the summer. He is fine human being, a real pillar of our community here in Barnet, Vermont.
